GRAPELAND — The Grapeland Sandies tried to stay in the playoff picture by holding off Kerens 59-56 Tuesday night.
Grapeland (4-5, 17-11) led 45-36 after the third quarter and then held off a Kerens’ (5-4) rally in the fourth quarter.
Jazmin Walker led Grapeland with 19 points while Terrance Faulk had 14 points and Rodney Randle added 12 points.
Grapeland will travel to Alto Friday night.
Slocum 50, Groveton 49
SLOCUM — The Slocum Mustangs jumped out to a 38-29 lead and held off a resurgent fourth quarter by Groveton to defeat the Indians 50-49.
Junior Aaron Chastain led Slocum with 14 points and connected on four three-point field goals. Otis Lackey added 12 points while Jared Lane put down 10 in the Mustang win.
Slocum (1-2, 8-16) led 24-21 at the end of the first half and outscored Groveton 14-8 in the third quarter. The Indians’ 20-12 fourth quarter was not enough to overcome the nine-point Mustang lead.
Slocum will host Lovelady Friday. The junior varsity game is scheduled for 4 p.m.
ELKHART — Dustin Wilson scored a team-high 14 points to lead a trio of Elk scorers in double digits, but it was not enough as Alto defeated Elkhart 79-50 Tuesday night at Elk Gymnasium.
Alto used a 28-10 second quarter to take a 43-21 lead at halftime.
Micah Blackman and Chris Bryant added 10 points a piece while Jeremy Miller scored six points in the loss.
Elkhart (0-9, 3-20) will travel to District 21-2A leading Malakoff Friday. The junior varsity game is scheduled for 5 p.m.
