From the beginning, it was an uphill battle for the Westwood Panthers as they ultimately fell to Fairfield 13-3 Tuesday night at Nicholson Field.
The Eagles put up three runs in the first four innings before Westwood responded in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Down 4-0, Luke Holder and Bruce Smith reached with singles and Ryan Mackie stepped up to score Holder on a RBI single to left field.
Seth Gilkey continued with a RBI single up the middle that scored Mackie and Smith and cut the deficit to 4-3.
But it was as close as the Panthers would get.
Using a string of six hits, three errors and three walks, the Eagles put up nine runs in the sixth and seventh innings to put the exclamation point on the game.
Missed opportunities proved hurtful to Westwood as the Panthers had a runner on third three times, including two situations with the bases loaded and less than two outs, but could not get the runner in.
Westwood travels to Groesbeck Friday night. The Panthers finish their season Tuesday at home against cross-town Palestine.
Fairfield will host Palestine Friday night.
