Westwood’s Hicks named co-Newcomer

Westwood’s Jazmine Hicks was named the District 19-3A softball co-Newcomer of the Year as the district team was released this week.

Hicks shared the newcomer honors with Mexia’s Courtney Condon.

Westwood had three players named to the district’s first team — outfielder Brandie Coffman, infielder Cassie Ault and pitcher Sumer Davis.

The Lady Panthers also had two selected to the second team — utility player Courtney Lively and outfielder Candace Smith.

Palestine had two second-team selections in Teara Stephens as an infielder and pitcher Mickey Roman.

Fairfield, who won the district title, dominated the all-district team including defensive Most Valuable Player Courtney Nelson.

Designated hitter Riley Davidson, outfielder Shelby Bayless, catcher Becca Lylas, infielder Kayse Kirgan and first baseman Caitlin Neal were named to the first team.

Outfielder Jessica Gallegos and infielder Jennifer Bisig were second-team selections.

Offensive MVP — Cassie Anders, Groesbeck
