Family memorial services for Clifford Duncan Philip, 88, Palestine, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Greenbrier Nursing Home with Bill Denham officiating. Burial will be in the Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery under the direction of Hilliard Funeral Home of Van.

Mr. Philip died Dec. 29 in Palestine.

He was born July 22, 1919 in Waukegan, Ill.

Mr. Philip had been in Greenbrier Nursing Home for six years, moving from another nursing home in the area. In 1999, he moved to the Palestine area from Fort Myers, Fla. He played football for University of Wisconsin on a football scholarship. He served as Lt. Commander in the US Navy Air Force during WWII when he was a pilot. He owned and operated a dry cleaning business and a bar and grill in St Thomas, Virgin Island where he lived for 22 years.

He was preceded in death by ex-wife, Frances Philip; and grandson, Christopher Foelsch.

Mr. Philip is survived by son, Clifford D. Philip Jr.; daughter, Jacquelyn Scott; eight grandchildren, Michael Dascher, Erik Korjus, Jonathan Foelsch, Melissa Barraza, Michelle Foelsch, Clifford Philip III, Sean Philip and Melinda Hill; and eight great-grandchildren.
