Chamber hosts ribbon cutting for Etex and PEDC broadband project

The Palestine Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for the Etex Communications and Palestine Economic Development Corporation’s collaborative effort to bring broadband to Palestine. Despite the heat, Etex CEO Charlie Cano along with city leaders met to celebrate the initial success of the four phase project. “We needed Palestine as much as Palestine needed us,” said Cano.

Cano said he is excited about the partnership and the opportunity to show the kind of reliable, professional service that his team offers. “It’s a really good partnership,” Cano said. “We are helping each other out.”

Forty-five miles of cable fiber have been laid from Jacksonville to Palestine and the Palestine Independent School District as well as Westwood are already receiving service.

The five year agreement between Etex and PEDC included each entity providing 50% of the cost and receiving 50% of the revenue. The initial phase cost $2.2 million.
