Palestine is offering some new entertainment this summer: an outdoor concert series in Old Town.
The Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development Corporation, and Smooth Rock 93.5 joined to present this three-concert series in Oxbow Hollow, 215 E. Crawford in Old Town.
“We wanted to do something with live music, and we have this great venue here in the midst of the Old Town Hollow,” Palestine chamber Director Michele Merryman Bell said. “We wanted to utilize it and create a family fun event for summer.
“Families, couples, music lovers, can bring their blankets or lawn chairs, pack a picnic, and come out an enjoy some live music.”
The first concert on Saturday will feature Chris Oliver & Company, followed by The Magills on July 13. The Tuxedo Cats will wrap up the series Aug.10.
The area will open at 5 p.m. Music begins at 6 p.m.
General admission is $10
Special to these events will be sponsorship tables and a tablescape competition.
“When I lived in Atlanta, Georgia, I would go to a similar event at Chastain Park,” Merryman Bell said. “I always left with a serious case of table envy.”
To participate, sponsors purchase a table for 8 for $400 an event, or $1,000 for all three concerts.
“The table decoration contest is a great way to show off your favorite vintage tablecloth, centerpieces, and candles, while enjoying a music-filled East Texas summer with friends, family, and co-workers under the stars,” Merryman Bell said.
Each sponsorship table will receives a bottle of wine/six pack of beer, or a jug of southern sweet tea, plus a cheese/charcuterie board.
The Cocktail Camper has been loaned to the Chamber to serve specialty craft beers in the Beer Garden. No outside alcohol is permitted inside the event venue.
