Let's Go

Sam Davis New Year's Ball and Social

If you haven't yet danced the Virginia reel, Spanish waltz, Patty cake polka, or Carolina promenade, it may be time to experience the Sam Davis Ball. The Robinson family of Palestine, who perform living histories at local venues, are hosting the dance and social, which they call “a night of old-fashioned dancing,” for the eighth year. Formerly held at the Museum for East Texas Culture, the social is moving to Salmon Lake Park in Grapeland and expanding to include a living history performance.

On Saturday, experience a Living History Tour, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday evening, the ball will feature period costumes and traditional American and European-style dancing, in a family-friendly atmosphere for all ages, 7-10 p.m. The Robinsons are happy to invite others to experience the culture of a different era, but advise participants to register as soon as possible. More details about the event and online registration are available at oldwaysmadenew.com, or contact Robinson at 903-724-1406. For information about accommodations, contact Salmon Lake Park at 936-687-2594.
