An Anderson County man is in custody Monday after an early morning standoff with Anderson County Sheriff's deputies.
Shortly before 7:30 a.m., Chief Deputy Troy Black and Sgt. Andrea Karriker responded to a report of an armed man in the 5000 block of Highway 84E.
Department of Public Safety troopers also responded to the call.
Deputies arrived to find the suspect, later identified as Toney Schuchert, 60, of Anderson County, armed and confrontational.
After a brief standoff, Black told the Herald-Press Monday, officers were able to disarm Schuchert and place him in custody. No shots were fired, and no injuries reported.
Schuchert was transported to the Anderson County Jail and charged with aggravated assault on a public servant, a felony punishable of up to 10 years in prison. His bond has not yet been set.
Black said Schuchert's mental health will be evaluated by ACCESS of Palestine.
All suspects are to be considered innocent until proven guilty.
