As a means to raise funds for local charities Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill is fixing breakfast for a cause from 8 to 10 a.m. each Saturday in 2006.

The Applebee’s Pancake Breakfast Charity Special consists of all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage, bacon, juice and coffee for just $5 per person.

“When I suggested at a United Way board meeting that we revive the breakfast to raise funds for them, they felt it was a great idea,” said Applebee’s General Manager and United Way board member Natalie Byrd. “Before I knew it, Meals on Wheels, the Palestine Rotary Club, and the Palestine Chamber of Commerce had approached (Applebee’s) to do the same for them.”

Applebee’s is located at 2225 S. Loop 256 in front of the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Palestine.

Each Saturday breakfast benefits a particular organization — the United Way on the first Saturday, the Palestine Rotary Club on the second Saturday, Meals on Wheels of Palestine on the third Saturday and the Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce on the fourth Saturday.

“We are fortunate that Applebee’s is in our community,” said Brenda Walker, who is actively involved in all four organizations benefiting from the breakfast. “We are equally pleased that they have chosen to partner with these community organizations.”

All moneys earned from the pancake breakfast will support the respective organizations, with employees and managers volunteering their time to prepare and oversee the meal.

“This is a great way to promote those groups in the community that need help from residents,” Byrd said. “(The breakfast) draws attention to those organizations and gives the public an opportunity to help them financially.”

This Saturday’s breakfast benefits Meals on Wheels of Palestine Inc.
