Three people, including two toddlers, are dead, following a one-car accident Wednesday on US-287 in Anderson County, roughly five miles north of Palestine.
Preliminary reports by the Texas Department of Public Safety show the driver, Ruby Kwame, 34, of Palestine, was traveling southbound, just after 4 p.m., when she crossed into the northbound lane and then continued into a ditch. Kwame's 2005 Toyota Camry struck a trash bin and a tree.
Kwame was pronounced dead at the scene by Judge James Westley.
Two toddlers – a four-year-old girl and two-year-old boy – were taken to Palestine Regional Medical Center, where they were later pronounced dead.
An 8-month-old infant girl also was transported to PRMC; she remains in stable condition.
DPS officials said indications show the driver and passengers were restrained when the accident occurred.
The crash remains under investigation.
