Anderson County sheriff's authorities are investigating an apparent robbery which occurred Tuesday afternoon on a county road south of Palestine.

Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor said a 32-year-old Elkhart woman was pulled over on the side of CR 140, south of Palestine, around 1 p.m. Tuesday when she was assaulted by an unknown offender.

"Somebody pulled up behind her," Taylor said. "...He (the offender) assaulted her, causing lacerations to her face and also took her wallet including an undisclosed amount of money and drove off."

Authorities are describing the suspect as a white male, possibly in his 30s; between 5-5 and 5-9 with a medium build; dark hair; and "scraggily" appearance.

The offender fled in "an older model, rusty-colored pickup," according to the sheriff.

Taylor said the female victim was treated and released at the emergency room of Palestine Regional Medical Center.

Anderson County Crimestoppers will pay up to a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the offender in this case, according to Taylor.

Persons with possible information about the offense should call 903-729-TIPS (8477).
