Street rods, classic cars, sports cars and more will be featured in the Congo Truck Club’s Fourth Annual Truck and Car Show next Saturday.
Sponsored by Ben E. Keith Distributing, the show will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 15 at 2019 W. Oak St. in Palestine.
“People like looking at old cars, so I think we will have a good turnout,” said Congo Truck Club vice president Garland Wilson. “Last year we had 55 entries from Palestine, Dallas, Tyler, Shreveport, Buffalo, Marshall and Longview.”
Proceeds from the show will go to the club’s scholarship fund.
Prizes will include Best of Show, Best Engine, Best Paint and Best Interior, as well as trophies for first, second and third place.
Truck classes include: 1900 to 1959, 1960 to 1972, 1973 to 1987, and 1988 to the present.
Car classes include: 1900 to 1967, 1968 to 1979, 1980 to 1991, and 1992 to the present.
Entry starts at 10 a.m. with the cut-off at 3 p.m. Entry fee is $20 per vehicle.
Trophies will be awarded at 5 p.m. SUVs and motorcycles are welcome, Wilson said.
Food and beverages will be available for show participants.
Congo Truck Club was organized in 1995 as a non-profit organization by Lawrence Reed and Wilson.
“Since our inception, we have strived to nourish the spirit of community by supporting and donating to several charities,” Wilson said.
The club, which participates in local parades and events, has donated and supported the following charities: church functions and events, scholarships, Thanksgiving baskets for the needy, Christmas baskets for the needy, toys for children during Christmas, clothes for less fortunate children, school supplies, and families with hardship burdens.
The club meets at 3 p.m. on the first Sunday of the month at different locations.
