The Palestine City Council rejected the request for qualifications for the downtown master plan at its regular meeting Monday night.

“I was really disappointed in the qualifications and we only had two submitted proposals,” said Palestine Mayor Carolyn Salter. “I feel we need to reject these and go out again for qualifications.

The mayor said the proposals lacked some of the key things she was looking for.

Salter stressed the request needs to stress the city is looking to apply for T21 funds, which is an 80/20 match for the city.

Councilman James Yelverton asked if the master plan would tie into the Main Street Project the city is looking at re-entering.

The council then adopted the new tourism slogan for the city “Embrace Nature” with the date the city was founded incorporated into the artwork of the current logo.

In other business the council:

• APPROVED the consent agenda.
