Dallas Mavericks mascot “Mavs Man” will perform a special halftime show Monday during the Palestine-Grapeland boys varsity basketball game at the Palestine Middle School gym.

Byron Thomas, who wears the costume of “Mavs Man,” will provide entertainment with special basketball dunks and flips. The game will start at 7:30 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Palestine YMCA and Palestine Independent School District.

“We think it’s exciting. We are happy to join with Palestine ISD on this event,” Palestine YMCA CEO David Hendricks said. “Both PISD and the YMCA are coming off successful football seasons and now we are starting our basketball seasons. We wanted to use the Mavs Man’s energy and enthusiasm to kick off our seasons on a high note.”

After the halftime show, Mavs Man will be available for autographs and pictures at the YMCA booth in the gym foyer.

Palestine YMCA will be signing up youth (ages 4 to 12) interested in their youth basketball program. YMCA basketball games start in January with the draft planned Dec. 16.
