Palestine Independent School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved employee retention incentives for the 2012-13 school year during the regular school board meeting Monday.

Professional employees will receive $600 and paraprofessional employees will receive $300, up from $500 for professionals and $200 for paraprofessionals in 2011.

PISD Superintendent Jason Marshall said he wanted to increase the amount slightly, due to the financial well-being of the district.

Based on the 2012 audit, $800,000 remaining from the 2011-12 budget year will be placed in the district’s fund balance and the incentives can be handled out of the budget surplus, Marshall said.

Currently, the district is generating over $500,000 more revenue than anticipated in the 2012-2013 budget.
