Keeping pets updated with rabies shots is something every pet owner needs to do.

To help pet owners, BARC, The Humane Society will have a vaccination clinic Saturday at the local animal shelter.

The clinic will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the shelter, located at 333 Armory Rd.

“We hope to have a good turnout. Rabies is bad this time of year, especially in East Texas. We’ve had some rabies reports in various counties, so it’s a good idea for everybody to follow up with a rabies shot,” said Brenda Beazley, vice president of BARC, The Humane Society.

Dr. Karen Stone and Dr. Angie Botts of Southwest Hills Veterinary Clinic will provide vaccinations. For safety, pets should be on a leash or in a pet carrier.

“If it rains, we will conduct the clinic inside the new shelter,” Beazley said.

This is the first rabies clinic to be conducted at the new facility. BARC, The Humane Society moved into its new building in June 2005.

The clinic also will offer a full set of vaccinations at half price.

In addition, the Humane Society will offer discounted adoptions on all animals ($35) on Saturday only.

Also on Saturday, Applebee’s will sponsor the all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast to benefit the Humane Society from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the restaurant.
