The Anderson County Literacy Council encourages everyone in the community to support its efforts by purchasing tickets for the 13th annual “Bee” for Literacy corporate spelling bee this Friday.

“Financial contributions are always needed from the community to keep the literacy center open each year and help people that need our services,” said council director Shirley Nichols. “The spelling bee is a fun way for the community to contribute to that effort.”

Tickets to the spelling bee, which includes dinner, are $12.50 each. Tickets will be sold until 6 p.m. today by calling 903-729-7703. Please leave a message if there is no answer.

The corporate spelling bee will be held from 5:15 to 7:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church's fellowship hall, located at 422 S. Magnolia St. Seven teams are competing for first and second place and an award for best cheering squad will be given as well.

Team members not previously mentioned include: Palestine Regional Rehabilitation Hospital (Pam McDonald, Greg Gunnels and Julia Luton) and Palestine Library Friends Inc. (Duke Waggoner, Peggy Wyatt and Carol Herrington).

Judges for the spelling bee will be Anderson County Judge Carey McKinney, 87th State District Judge Deborah Oakes-Evans and Anderson County Court at Law Judge Jeff Doran.
