A 47-year-old Palestine woman whom authorities say attempted to hide three rocks of crack cocaine in her mouth and also had marijuana secreted in her undergarments has been indicted by an Anderson County grand jury.

Lavonne Murray, 47, of Palestine was indicted on March 17 on felony charges of possession of marijuana between 4 ounces and 5 pounds; possession of a controlled substance between 1 and 4 grams; and tamper/fabricate physical evidence, according to records recently released by the Anderson County district clerk's office.

Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor has said officers Gary Wilbanks and Dan Mogan of the Anderson County Drug Investigation Unit were “patrolling a known drug house" in the 1300 block of Cummings Street around 1:20 p.m. on Jan. 19 when they observed “what they believed to be a drug transaction” transpiring at the location.

Upon approaching the residence, officers made contact with Murray who is believed to live there, according to the sheriff.

“They were talking to her and actually observed a large plastic bag in her month...and it looked like it had crack cocaine,” Taylor said at the time of Murray’s arrest. “She wasn’t doing a very good job of hiding it in her mouth. It was too big. She tried to swallow it when they discovered it.”

Officers were able to get Murray to spit out the bag which contained three rocks of crack cocaine, according to the sheriff.

Total weight of the drugs, including packaging, was approximately 3.5 grams, the sheriff added.

During the book-in process at the Anderson County Jail, a thorough search of Murray's person by a female officer revealed approximately 156 grams — or 5.5 ounces — of marijuana inside her undergarments, authorities have said.

The marijuana was located in “46 individually wrapped baggies in a larger Ziploc baggy in her panty area,” Taylor said at the time.

A search warrant executed at the residence following Murray’s arrest netted 23 Hydrocodone tablets weighing a total of approximately 10 grams, according to the sheriff.
