The Palestine Young Professionals are hosting a public meeting Thursday designed to answer questions from members of the public concerning the Palestine YMCA’s efforts to purchase the old Meadowbrook County Club.

The meeting is scheduled to start at 5:15 p.m. Thursday in the Ben E. Keith community room at 2019 W. Oak St.

Earlier this year, the Palestine YMCA launched a capital fundraising program in hopes of raising $1.3 million in pledges to purchase the 125-acre property which formerly operated as Meadowbrook Country Club.

Y leaders envision the longtime country club being transformed into a multi-purpose facility, including a nine-hole public golf course; four soccer fields; five tennis courts; a swimming pool; a community recreation center; and community hiking trails.

The entire complex would be called the Palestine Area Recreation Center (PARC).

“This is a great opportunity to find out about the Y’s proposal for developing the former Meadowbrook Country Club area,” said David Hendricks, CEO of the Palestine YMCA. “The YMCA is limited in the scope of services it can provide to Palestine and the surrounding area at our current location. The proposed Palestine Area Recreation Center would allow us to expand the services we provide and be a real asset to the community as well. I would like to invite anyone interested to come out on the 12th (of April) and find out more details about this great opportunity.”

Y board members and other staff also will attend Thursday’s meeting to answer questions regarding their vision for the PARC.

The Palestine YMCA is attempting to generate a large enough collective commitment to purchase the property sometime this year from Huntsville developer Mike McIver, who previously lived in Palestine.

Persons also can obtain additional information by visiting www.palestineymca.org and go to the PARC link. Once there, visitors can view a layout of the facility and the Y’s vision for the property. Pledge cards also are available there.
