Frank Harris threw for 341 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 49 yards and another score, lifting No. 23 UTSA to its second straight Conference USA championship with a 48-27 victory over North Texas. After falling behind 10-7, the Roadrunners reeled off 17 unanswered points, including 10 in the final 1:12 of the first half to take a 24-10 lead at the break and never trailed again. Harris had scoring passes of 32, 14, and 39 yards to Zakhari Franklin, and his fourth — a 16-yard toss to Oscar Cardenas — sealed the victory with 4:07 left. Austin Aune, who engineered a scoring drive that got North Texas within 34-27 early in fourth quarter, threw for 194 yards and score but was picked off twice.

A study has found that the racial gap in graduation rates for this year’s bowl teams in college football has declined again. The gap is now the smallest in its history. The Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sport at Central Florida says the overall Graduation Success Rate for bowl-bound teams in 2022 has reached an all-time high of 83%. Improvements for Black football players slightly outpaced those of white players. Institute director Richard Lapchick says the shrinking gap is positive news, but more must be done.

The Houston Texans will return to Davis Mills at quarterback against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, two weeks after he was benched for Kyle Allen. Coach Lovie Smith announced the move Wednesday, saying “we don’t give out lifetime jobs. The switch comes after Allen was picked off on Houston’s first play of the game against Cleveland last weekend, had a fumble returned for a touchdown and an interception brought back for another score as Houston dropped its seventh straight game.

Dorian Finney-Smith hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 17.3 seconds remaining and the Dallas Mavericks rallied after squandering a late lead to beat the Denver Nuggets 116-115. Nikola Jokic had a chance to tie the game with 12 seconds remaining, but missed the first of two free throws. Spencer Dinwiddie hit both free throws to help seal the win for the Mavericks. Tim Hardaway Jr. scored a season-high 29 points and Luka Doncic recorded his 52nd career triple-double with 22 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists. Aaron Gordon had 27 points, while Nikola Jokic added 19 points, eight assists and eight rebounds for the Nuggets.

Matt Murray made 44 saves for his first shutout of the season and Mitch Marner extended his Toronto-record point streak to 20 games with an early assist as the Maple Leafs beat the Dallas Stars 4-0. John Tavares, Auston Matthews, Rasmus Sandin and Alexander Kerfoot scored for the surging Maple Leafs, who are 9-0-3 in their last 12 games. Dallas went 0 for 7 on the power play, including a four-minute double minor and a 5-on-3 for 1:38. The Stars were shut out for the first time this season. Jake Oettinger stopped 25 shots.

JaKobe Coles scored a career-high 21 points, Damion Baugh had 15 points, six rebounds and five assists and No. 24 TCU beat Jackson State 78-51 for its fifth straight victory. Coles scored 12 points in the opening 10 minutes as TCU led 25-11 and he matched his career high with 15 points by halftime. Coles had the final six points of an 8-0 run early in the second half for a 54-34 lead. Shahada Wells added 14 points and Chuck O’Bannon Jr. scored 11 for TCU. Coltie Young made four 3-pointers and scored 14 points for Jackson State.
