The Westwood High School girls’ basketball team remained winless in District 3A-18 after the Lady Bison of Buffalo stampeded through on Tuesday.
The Lady Bison topped the Lady Panthers 53-25 in 3A-18. This was the only district game on the slate locally as Elkhart’s playing just a junior varsity schedule and Frankston had a bye.
The Lady Panthers started strong — with Jordan Carter contributing eight points early to Buffalo’s 11.
However, nothing else would fall for the Westwood squad in the opening quarter.
Meanwhile Buffalo sophomore Mollie Dittmar bolstered the Lady Bison into the lead, contributing 15 points and pulling down seven rebounds — in the first quarter
The Lady Bison continued to dominate in the second quarter, and they took a 40-10 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Westwood’s Monica Wilson sparked the Lady Panthers’ best effort in the fourth quarter, when they outscored their opponents 12-6 — but it was too little, too late and Buffalo earned this valuable road win.
First-year Westwood head coach Joseph Baker stated that his squad has been hit with some sickness this week and the girls were trying to play through it.
“We did not perform on either side of the ball tonight,” Baker lamented, “and we’ve got to start taking care of the ball. We’re definitely struggling.”
Chelsey Walker was the Lady Panthers’ leading rebounder with five.
Wilson also swiped a team-best five steals, and she dished off three assists; but, Buffalo forced Westwood into 24 turnovers.
Westwood dropped to 4-11 overall.
Baker on Wednesday reported the Westwood game originally scheduled for this Friday at home versus Nacogdoches Central Heights has been cancelled and will not be made up.
