FAIRFIELD — For the second straight season, the Cayuga High School girls' basketball team unfortunately met the same fate.

Centerville defeated Cayuga 50-23 on Tuesday evening in a Conference 2A-Region III bi-district playoff game at Fairfield High School.

Reagan Clark and Briley Shaw both scored nine points for Cayuga (22-12).

Despite scoring 50 points, none of Centerville's players scored in double digits, either. Hannah Matthews paced the Lady Tigers with nine and four other girls had seven points apiece (Averi Hancock, Shania West, Keyonna Holley and Kinsey Hardee).

Centerville was up 17-3 after one quarter, and 29-10 at intermission.

Kerens 48, Slocum 37

LEON — The Slocum girls' basketball team advanced to the Conference 1A state semifinals a season ago.

After bumping up to Conference 2A for the 2018-19 campaign, the Lady Mustangs experienced some tough sledding and they were eliminated from the postseason with an 11-point loss to District 19-2A champion Kerens.

Slocum was down just seven points in the third quarter; but, couldn't draw any closer as Kerens outscored its opponent 18-10 in that frame for a 43-28 cushion.

Gina Lively was the Lady Mustangs' top scorer with 11 points, and Jalyn Fletcher added eight.

Mya Lincoln paced Kerens with 16 points, which included five 3-pointers, and teammate Kecie Langley totaled 14 (including four made free throws).

Grapeland

GROESBECK — The Grapeland girls' basketball team (24-8) will play Moody (21-8) at 6:30 p.m. tonight at Groesbeck High School gymnasium in the 2A-III area round.
