LaPoynor's Jayla Hawkins

LaPoynor High School's Jayla Hawkins (00) jumps inside the lane to take a shot while Grapeland's Tatiyana Bowie (5) looks on during a non-district game from December. Both LaPoynor and Grapeland are in action tonight across East Texas.

This has been a strange week for high school basketball as athletic directors have juggled the calendar around New Year's Day, which took place on Tuesday.

Six games were scheduled on Monday, and three more on Wednesday.

The schedule regains some semblance of normalcy tonight as district basketball resumes throughout the Pine Empire.

In District 20-3A, Groesbeck will visit Elkhart while Crockett plays host to Frankston at the Hopkins Activity Center. The Bulldogs are fresh off winning the Houston County Tournament over Grapeland last Saturday.

The Grapeland boys will play their first District 20-2A game of the season as part of a home doubleheader versus Jewett Leon.

The Cayuga girls also play their first District 19-2A game at Italy.

Meanwhile, the Cayuga boys will play at New Summerfield in non-district action.

Neches boys and girls also play different opponents tonight.

The girls are home for a non-district game versus Slocum in what shapes up as an entertaining match-up.

The boys continue District 28-1A play at Laneville in a game featuring two ranked teams in Texas Association of Basketball Coaches' Conference 1A poll.

Other District 28-1A games are: Oakwood at Centerville Groveton and LaPoynor at Apple Springs.
