ATHENS — The Neches High School girls' basketball team had some uncharacteristic turnovers during the first quarter of a Conference 1A-Region IV bi-district game on Monday.

Coolidge built an early lead, and Lady Tiger Lexi Rogers found herself in early foul trouble.

But, Makenzie Hudson and Kacie Kimbrough bailed out Neches as the Lady Tigers eventually registered a 45-28 victory over Coolidge in the brand new gymnasium at Athens High School.

Hudson finished with a game-high 22 points, including five 3-pointers and one made free throw and Kimbrough was a defensive force — generating steal after steal, especially during the second quarter.

The Lady Tigers and Lady Yellowjackets were deadlocked at 8-all after one quarter of play; however, Neches outscored Coolidge 15-4 in the second for a 23-12 halftime lead.

Neches was up comfortably — in double figures — throughout the second half. Coolidge never scored more than eight points in any given quarter.

Tiana Kirven was Coolidge's leading scorer with 10.

Neches (23-9) will now play Bartlett at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at North Zulch High School. Coolidge finished the season with a solid 15-9 mark, according to MaxPreps.
