The Westwood Panthers opened district with a narrow loss on the road against Groesbeck Friday afternoon. Mario Black led the Panthers in scoring with 17 points. Bri'Darian Hunt contributed another 16 on the day. The Panthers will host the Frankston Indians Tuesday night. Tipoff for varsity is at 7:30 p.m.
Elkhart 48, Teague 27
The Elkhart Elks dismissed the Teague Lions Friday in a 21-point routing in their district opener. Ky Thomas led the Elks with 13 points, Cale Starr had 11, while Cade Starr added eight. Josh Davis scored six and David McMorris had five. The Elks will host their second district match against the Buffalo Bison Tuesday night at 5 p.m.
Grapeland 67, Latexo 38
The Grapeland Sandies dominated in their district opener against the Latexo Tigers Friday, 67-38. Austin Driskell led the team in scoring with 17 points. Cadarian Wiley posted a near double-double with 12 points and eight rebounds. Keizion Ashford led the team in assists with seven. The Sandies will host the Alto Yellowjackets Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
Slocum 83, Centerville 70
The Slocum Mustangs (15-5) opened district with an 83-70 victory over the Centerville Tigers. Colby Thornton led the Mustangs in scoring with 27. Josh Ives followed him with 14 points, while Chase Wilson added 13 points. The Mustangs will host their first district home game against Lovelady Tuesday night. Varsity boys are scheduled to tipoff at 7:30 p.m.
Mt. Enterprise 63, Cayuga 61
Cayuga dropped their final non-district road game Friday to Mt. Enterprise, 63-61. Connor Daniel led the Wildcats in scoring with 15 points. Cody Hearell followed behind him with 13. Charles Carroll and Austin Jenkins both added 12 on the night. The Wildcats return home Tuesday for their first of two straight non-district home games. They'll host New Summerfiield with varsity scheduled to follow the JV game at 5 p.m.
Oakwood 52, Apple Springs 30
The Oakwood Panthers opened district with a 52-30 victory over Apple Springs Friday. Jeremiah Sargent had a game-high 26 points, while Key'Undre Davis scored 20. The Panthers travel to Chireno High School to play the Owls Tuesday night.
Neches 51, Chireno 31
The Neches Tigers marched past the Chireno Owls Friday night, 51-31, and saw a couple players tally double-digit scoring. John Snider led the Tigers in scoring with 16 points. Aaron Deckard stated 14 points, while Carlos Quistian had nine points. Neches will travel to Groveton to play Centerville Tuesday at 6 p.m.
