Elkhart's Chloe Ives with bronze medal

Elkhart junior powerlifter Chloe Ives shows off the bronze medal she earned at the Region 3 meet on Saturday at the Johnson Activity Center in Fairfield.

FAIRFIELD — Elkhart High School junior powerlifter Chloe Ives nearly qualified for the state meet; but, she still picked up a snazzy bronze medal for her work.

This was undoubtedly Ives finest performance on the platform of the season as she recorded personal-bests in all three lifts at the Texas High School Women's Powerlifting Association Division III Region III meet at Johnson Activity Center on Saturday.

Ives put together a three-lift combination of 780 pounds, which was 20 short of the standard for state qualification.

The THSWPA state meet will take place at the Extraco Events Center in Waco on March 15-16.

Competing in the 148-pound weight group, Ives hoisted 325 pounds in the squat, put up 155 more in the bench and finished her day with a 300-pound dead lift.

What's more, Ives began the day ranked eighth in Region III, so she outclassed the field.

Elkhart sent a small contingent to the regional meet, with Alissa Talley grabbing ninth at 105 pounds (565 pounds, including a 255-pound dead lift). Kayla Moore (550) and Natalie DeFore (655) were both 12th overall in the 123- and 259-plus pound weight classes.

Frankston also had a pair of medalists, with Kaela Davis taking fifth place overall at 165 pounds, and Novalie Davenport fifth at 181.

Davis put up 770 pounds, which included both a 300-pound squat and dead lift. Davenport (695) recorded a 285-pound squat as her biggest highlight. Frankston's Nat Jones added a seventh-place finish at 181 (670).

Kiera DeCluette turned in Grapeland's best performance of the day, taking ninth at 148 pounds. DeCluette had a 315-pound dead lift as part of her 705-pound total.

Stacy Perez of Grapeland was 14th at 198 pounds, including a 300-pound dead lift and a total of 675 pounds.

Both DeCluette and Perez qualified for state because they are in Conference 2A, which has a smaller pool of lifters.

Rounding out Grapeland's lifters, Arionna Davis was ninth in the 259-plus category (765, 360-pound squat).

Cayuga's Bryanna Stotts finished 10th in the 220-pound weight group, putting together a three-lift total of 765 (including a 350-pound squat).
