ELKHART — The Elkhart Elks picked up their first win of the season Tuesday defeating Wells 73-56 at Elkhart Gymnasium.

Cordero Gentry scored 17 points while Chris Yonts added 14. Chris Bryant added 12 points in the Elkhart (1-2) victory.

Elkhart used a 10-point halftime lead to put away Wells early.

The Elks will play Lovelady Thursday at 2:40 p.m. at the Slocum Tournament.

Grapeland 80, Mildred 43

GRAPELAND — The Grapeland Sandies used a 34-17 halftime lead to defeat Mildred 80-43 Tuesday night at Sandie Gymnasium for their fourth win of the season.

Jazmin Walker scored 18 points while Terrance Faulk and Andrew Walker added 17 a piece.

Grapeland (4-1) led 53-29 at the end of the third quarter and outscored Mildred by 13 in the fourth.

The Sandies will play Madisonville Thursday at 7:30 p.m. to open the Madisonville Tournament.

Cayuga 54,

Rice 49

RICE — The Cayuga Wildcats got a huge win Tuesday night.

The Wildcats defeated No. 13 Rice 54-49 Tuesday night at Rice to move to 7-3 on the season.

Sam Downe scored a team-high 14 points and connected on 4-6 free throws in the fourth quarter and grabbed eight rebounds in the win.

Darnell Walker added 13 points and four rebounds while Chris Wilson scored 10 points to go with eight rebounds.

With the game tied at 26 at halftime, the Wildcats held Rice to eight points in the third quarter and outscored the Bulldogs 28-23 to grab the win.

Cayuga will play Douglas at 5:20 p.m. Thursday in the Slocum Tournament.
