For the second straight year, Elkhart will have a catcher — Ricky Brooks — playing in the Texas High School Coaches Association’s All-Star baseball game.
The All-Star game will be played at 11 a.m. June 17 at Dell Diamond Stadium in Round Rock.
After playing the outfield for Elkhart last year, Brooks made the move behind the plate and has been rewarded for his performance by being selected to play in the All-Star game.
“It is really exciting to me to see Ricky make this team,” Elkhart head baseball coach John Adair said. “It says a lot about the job Ricky did.”
Brooks, a senior, hit .489 on the season with seven home runs, 12 doubles and four triples. He was named the District 21-2A Most Valuable Player.
Brooks follows Trey Farrow, last year’s Elkhart catcher, who also played in the THSCA All-Star game.
“I have coached high school for 16 years and Trey was the first player I had make it to the All-Star game,” Adair said. “Now to have two players make it in two straight years is very exciting.”
Adair said having a player make it to the All-Star game in two straight years shows how strong the baseball program is at Elkhart.
“Not too many teams get kids to the All-Star game so to have it happen in two straight years is a great accomplishment,” Adair said. “It says a lot about our program.”
