SLOCUM — The Neches Lady Tigers won twice Friday in the Slocum Tournament.

The Lady Tigers opened Friday rallying to defeat Cayuga 51-50 and then defeated Palestine 38-33.

Neches trailed Cayuga 38-28 after the third quarter but the Lady Tigers outscored Cayuga 17-12 to get past the Ladycats.

Neches’ Chealsey Hoffman made four three pointers and finished with 20 points.

Cayuga’s Amber Sheppard and Libby Lopez each had 10 points.

Later in the afternoon, Neches held Palestine to single-digit scoring in three of the four quarters for the win.

Hoffman led Neches with 19 points as she made two three pointers.

Palestine’s Crystal Rogers had 10 points.

Neches will play Latexo in the consolation round of the tournament at 3 p.m. today.



Latexo 40, Oakwood 30



SLOCUM — Latexo defeated Oakwood 40-30 Friday in the second round of the Slocum Tournament.

The difference of the game was in the third quarter when Latexo outscored Oakwood 15-5.

Latexo’s Chelsea Low had 14 points while Oakwood’s Verlicia Caldwell had nine points.



Wells 47, Elkhart 37



CUSHING — The Elkhart Lady Elks struggled in the fourth quarter Friday night, falling to Wells 47-37 in the second round of the Cushing Tournament.

Elkhart (8-2) led 35-33 heading into the fourth quarter but only managed two points as Wells scored 14 to take the lead.

Janae Lock led Elkhart with nine points and Kari Haferkamp added eight points.

Elkhart will conclude the Cushing Tournament in the third-place game at noon today against Apple Springs. The Lady Elks will start district play Tuesday at Grapeland.
