The Crockett Bulldogs dominated the District 21-3A selections with four of the top six individual awards while Palestine had 13 selections and Westwood had six selections on the all-district team.

While Rusk’s Justin Sturns was named the district’s Most Valuable Player, Crockett had the Defensive MVP (Donald Gobert), Offensive MVP (JaGerrick Henry), Newcomer of the Year (Tracy Cooper), top kicker (David Arvizu) and Coach of the Year (Stephen Burrow).

Palestine’s John Gold was named the top punter of the district after he averaged over 35 yards a punt.

Devin Stephens was one of four Palestine players to be named to the first-team offense. Stephens, Palestine’s senior quarterback, was 86-of-171 passing for 1,427 yards and 19 touchdowns. He also rushed for 602 yards and seven touchdowns.

Leon Mickens and Kevin Swanson both are first-team wide receivers. Mickens caught 47 passes for 931 yards and 13 touchdowns while Swanson had 33 catches for 495 yards and five scores.

Philip George, a senior offensive lineman, rounds out the Palestine first-team offense.

Palestine linebackers Cory Whitfield and Aaron Smith were the two representatives on the first-team defense. Smith led the team with 100 tackles while Whitfield had 96 tackles and three sacks.

Paul Kennedy, Allen Williams and D.J. Hall were second-team offensive players for Palestine while Ben Beckworth, Kevin Birdow and Chrys Davis were named to the second-team defense.

Westwood’s Gralyn Crawford, a sophomore, was a first-team offensive selection after the quarterback was 73-of-163 passing for 1,234 yards and 11 touchdowns. On the ground he rushed for 604 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Tyler Coates is the other first-team offensive selection for Westwood. The junior wide receiver caught 39 passes for 574 yards and four touchdowns.

Junior linebacker Clayton Thompson is the lone first-team defensive selection for Westwood. Thompson led the Panthers with 114 tackles.

George Carter was the lone second-team selection on offense for Westwood while Brandon Ellis and Cody Brooks both were named to the second-team defense.
