Elkhart’s Lane Grant has been honored for his stellar play during the 2010-2011 basketball season with a spot in the Azalea Orthopedic All-Star game to be played Saturday in Tyler.

The game, which pits the best players from the area against each other, will be played at Tyler Junior College’s Wagstaff Gym, with the girls’ game starting at 5:30 p.m. The boys’ game will immediately follow.

Grant joins Cayuga’s C.J. Wagner and Dalevin Campbell in representing the Dogwood Circle, and Cayuga coach Jeremy Jenkins will be coaching the West squad.

The Westwood girls’ athletic program is hosting its second annual Run Into Spring 5K fun run April 16, and is looking for any interested runners to sign up now.

The cost to enter the race is $15, and includes a free race t-shirt.

All proceeds from the race benefit the Lady Panther athletic program.

Race forms can be picked up at Westwood High School or the Palestine YMCA, or can be printed off at the high school’s Web site.

Pre-registration ends April 8, but race day registration is available. However, anyone who registers on race day may not receive a shirt.

The race will begin at 9 a.m., with race packet pick-up beginning at 8 a.m.

Pre-registration is now open for boys ages 13-16 from the Anderson County area to participate in the second annual Dogwood Area Coaches Clinic.

The clinic offers area boys a chance to compete against one another and learn from area varsity basketball coaches, while also serving as a tryout of sorts for the 76ers Summer Youth Basketball Team.

The 76ers, which was formally administered by the Palestine YMCA, is now under the direction of SIXERinc., a non-profit organization run by Palestine native Jonathan Cary.

The clinic is free of charge, and will be April 16 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Palestine Middle School.

Free food and drinks will be available, and the clinic will be open for the public to come watch.

Players or parents interested in the clinic should e-mail Jasminn Moore at jasminn.allen@yahoo.com

Also, to learn about sponsoring the event, contact Cary at jcary@sixerinc.org, or call 832-524-4948.

SIXERinc., will also have an information meeting at noon Saturday at Ben E. Keith for anyone interested in learning more about the organization.

SIXERinc.’s Jasminn Moore said the group wants community leaders and the community as a whole to hear the story about the group’s mission and goals.
