A man walking in Huntsville was arrested after police say they discovered cocaine in his possession.

According to officials, police noticed a man walking in the 300 block of 13th Street around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday and approached him. During a conversation, police say the man told the officer that he had just gotten out of jail for drug possession.

Officers asked the man for permission to search and he took off running, and while on the run the suspected allegedly pulled out a bag with a white substance and attempted to destroy it. However, police were able to recover the bag, which tested positive for cocaine.

“Our officers did an excellent job patrolling and preserving evidence,” HPD Lt. Jim Barnes said. “I am happy we were able to apprehend the suspect.”

The suspect – later identified as Earnie Raymo – was charged with possession of a controlled substance and tampering with evidence. He is currently being held in the Walker County Jail on $6,000 in bonds.
