Mineral Wells police are investigating circumstances surrounding the discovery of a badly decomposed body inside residence on the city's near southwest side.
Police were called about 3 a.m. on a welfare check to a home in the 400 block of S.W. 3rd Avenue and after a neighbor reported a strong smell coming from the residence.
Officers responded and found the residence locked and secured, according to a department report, however, the odor was evident. Officers made entry into the home and inside discovered a decomposing body in one of the bedrooms.
Due to the condition of the body, additional information regarding the identity, time, cause, and/or manner of death, including whether or not foul play may have been involved, has yet to be determined, police said.
The body was transported to the medical examiner’s office, where an autopsy will be performed. The Palo Pinto District Attorney’s Office and the Texas Rangers are assisting with the investigation.
