More road closures on the horizon as workers complete work on the Park Road 40 bridges.
Officials with the Texas Department of Transportation announced on Friday that Park Road 40 will be closed between the Interstate 45 ramps from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. on Monday and Tuesday, and then continue nightly from July 8-31.
The road will be open July 3-7.
“This closure is necessary for worker and driver safety in order to complete the concrete columns, caps, beams and bridge deck for the median portion of the I-45 bridge over Park Road 40,” TxDOT public information officer Bobby Colwell said. “Traffic will remain in its present configuration on I-45 until the new concrete pavement and bridge in the median are completed.”
Detour routes will be signed, and portable message boards will be placed in affected areas.
The closure is part of Segment 1B of the Interstate 45 widening project. The portion of the project will widen the interstate to six lanes from Vick Springs Road to Hwy. 19 and replace the Park road 40 bridges and Hwy. 19 southbound flyover.
During the 3-year project, multiple lane shifts and relocation of traffic will take place at various times to accommodate construction activity. I-45 and southbound Hwy. 19 will also be closed at various times for the safety of the traveling public and construction workers.
